Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head received sanctions following their exchange during the Adelaide Test in the cricket series. Siraj has been fined 20% of his match fee, and both players received a demerit point each.
The incident occurred in the 82nd over when Siraj dismissed Travis Head. Siraj approached Head and pointed towards the Australian dressing room while giving him a send-off. The ICC stated that Siraj violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses actions that could provoke an aggressive reaction from the batter in cricket.
Different Accounts of the Incident in Cricket
Both players provided different explanations. Travis Head claimed he simply said “well bowled” after his dismissal. He felt that Siraj’s response was excessive, leaving him “surprised” and “disappointed.” However, Siraj refuted this claim, calling it a “lie” and asserting that Head had verbally abused him.
Head was found to have breached Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with the abuse of players or officials during international cricket matches.
Admissions and Sanctions for Cricket Players
Both players admitted to their violations and accepted the proposed sanctions. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing. This marks the first offence for both players in 24 months of playing cricket at the international level.
